I must have spent hours looking for luggage sets. I'm not made of money, but I'm also just paranoid enough to not want to risk a less expensive brand that reviews were either broken wheels or zippers.I get hard luggage will get banged up, so wanted to go darker color wise. My husband didn't care about the color, and the white, orange and purple 3 sets were half the price of the other colors. White is too light for us. Orange will (imo) look dirty quick. Dark purple won't look super dirty fast and hopefully will hide scuff marks better. So he gets manly purple. The protective plastic film is still on in the photos, but if you look around the logo you can see the true shine. We may leave the film on for the cruise, sure it'll look goofy but will provide a tiny bit more protection than if it was gone? Side note, if you check out lots of the negative reviews, they tend to refer to scratched up and peeling 'finish', thus is likely the protective film.I'll update again after the cruise for a true story of how well it works!Zippers feep sturdy. Zipper on the liner is backwards, which I think is intentional as I've seen this on various luggage sets in store. It opens just fine though. Handles feel good, but I'm honestly nervous on how well they'll handle weight.Luggage came with 1 of the luggage locks numbers off, it said 001 instead of 000 like the others. Common sense made me change it to 000 and it opened just fine, so make sure to try the default of 000 if yours is the same.Package was only taped once, all packing material seemed solid and not redone, so I doubt this is a return.*UPDATE*Luggage handled the cruise handling just fine. We checked the 2 larger bags and carry on the small. We walked off with all 3,including walking across a busy street to our parking garage. The luggage has very slight scrapes, nothing noticeable unless you're looking close and at an angle. I did remove the plastic before the trip too. Wheels worked well. Handles did fine. I had the medium and large loaded to just under 50lbs each. Only issue is, I was going to register the luggage and it says to use a QR paper that came with the luggage or find it in the luggage. There was no QR code anywhere and I do have a tag in each luggage but can not figure out what numbers to use. I emailed the company so will k ow soon hopefully. Luggage wise, I'm not regretting it as our first luggage purchase at all. They're so pretty and feel sturdy, I cannot wait to find another reason to travel with them again! All 3 fit in the trunk of our 2013 Hyundai Elantra BTW. Pro tip, open the luggage to air out a bit, then toss a dryer sheet in each side (behind the zipper). My husband was wondering what smelled so good when he helped me pack the luggage, and when we opened it upon return it smelled very nice.I bought this suitcase (28 inch) for a trip to Asia in 2015. It’s journeyed to a number of countries and continents since (and survived a lot of shorter domestic legs full of holiday gifts, thanks to the expansion zipper feature). Sadly, it is now retiring to the great luggage belt in the sky due to a fracture along the base of the front hard shell. However, given the cost (I think I paid the current sale price of around $200), the mileage it has, and the seven years it’s traveled, that is a very acceptable life span, and I recommend this bag.A few notes after many years of use:-The hard shell did a fantastic job protecting contents. I love to shop and collect china and ceramics - I wrapped things up well before putting them in this suitcase and not one thing ever arrived broken. Even after it developed some give in the front shell, and was prone to pop in - this started after a recent trip when I can only assume it was pretty violently handled.-The bag is very light for its size to help with airline weight restrictions.-It’s pretty maneuverable. Newer Samsonites have smoother, easier wheels, but these still did the job and never broke.-The exterior on the silver gray didn’t overly show wear and tear. Although really anything but a fabric bag is going to show the abuse these bags receive. Unlike a fabric bag, this one has kept everything nice and dry on airline baggage carts parked in rain.-It’s an easier shape/design to spot on a luggage carousel than most bags, which is a nice bonus.-Excellent zippers. I have maxed bag capacity out on a number of occasions and the zippers have performed perfectly.I'm not the reviewer type but I'll make an exception for this purchase. I usually balk at items like this delivering intact, untouched and in original form. Especially given a fairly good number of reviewers here, that backed up my concern. I purchased this during the Prime day special and for the price, it was worth the gamble. So I set my expectations to (super) low, having already decided where to return the merch! While delivery was delayed by a day, it still arrived quickly. Much to my surprise, I unboxed a perfect set of luggage (yes, they nest inside each other). As for the intended purpose, I'm not holding out much hope they'll last, these are lightweight and given the material, when it lets go, it lets go with huge tears, rendering the piece useless. To be fair, this hasn't happened to some reviewers but I've worked with this type of plastics before and I know how it deforms and splits. I hope it holds up but I'm also investing in straps!I really like the color and the pics here, still have the plastic coating on them, so it's not a fair representation but I will say, I'm very pleased with the finish, it's pretty eye catching. The 28" piece is, well, HUGE. I think you could pack for two people with this size.Lastly, I like some of the other colors, the darker blue and purple but this one is starting to grow on me and I'm not sure it wouldn't win out again, all colors being equal. So, $244 for 3 Sampsonite pieces, I think that's pretty darn good. I would have passed, had there NOT been this price, for this color. The white one is similarly priced, which doesn't look bad but all the neato colors, you know the game by now, if it's popular, you pay a hefty premium. I don't understand the logic, with this particular color being so reasonably priced and they even use it in their promo material. I'm sure I was brainwashed, in some sleek Madison Avenue subliminal-type way, into buying this........especially since I have nowhere to go!Alright, no more blathering on, my verdict is: Go for it (cause the price is right)!Nice suit case, enough space and easy to use.Whoever only thing which wasn't how I was wanted is missing the handle on the horizontal position. The expandable handle is not very strong but the wheels go smoothly.Samsonite are living off the name. The quality of these was just awful, i packed them straight back up & returned them. Don't waste your money!Long term review, purchased this 3yrs ago and have used on 6 flights , on my last trip one of the wheels collapsed in the casing, IMO this was due to a design flaw as there is little support between the wheel and case. Samsonite directed me to an authorized store EVEX Thornhill who denied my claim with little review of the problem. Do not rely on Samsonite warranty as IMO it is not supported.Very nice suitcase!SUMMARY:This review is on the large, checked, 28", Samsonite Winfield suitcase.Thought you'd appreciate a review from someone who's lived out of this thing for weeks on end, and has used it for years. In all, I've had this for 4 years. Probably 40-50 flights.I am exclusively a first-world traveler. No wild trips through Indian markets or anything. Mostly Cosmopolitan cities, predominantly in North America.Longest trips have been 35 days (multiple cities, so 5-6 flights over 35 days). It's now broken, so I need to replace it.I'm re-buying it, not because it's been amazing, but it's been good enough, and it's now familiar to me and has always been accepted on flights around the world, so I'll get it again.DURABILTY- junction with wheel - broken, unrepairable, have to buy new suitcase altogether (see pic)- zippers - amazing, as if new; really quite astonishing; zippers absolutely one of the highlights of this suitcase!- handle - sturdy enough; a bit of flex, but never in doubt- outer shell - scratches fairly easily, but if you get the carbon-looking finish, they hide well (see pic)- wheels - roll really well, almost as newINSIDE:- fairly basic, gets the job done- compartments do decent job of keeping things organized- combined with a toiletry kit and a few organizers, I've lived out of this for up to 35 days at a timeDESIGN:- I really like how there's no wasted space with unnecessary outer pockets; you're checking this bag, so any storage compartment on outside is useless and only reducing how much free space you get inside- expansion feature - zippers very strong; multiple times I've packed this luggage with expansion panel open, closed suitcase's main zipper, then knelt on suitcase to squish, then force-zipped the expansion panel closed (to make overall suitcase smaller to maneuver) and it worked, no zipper splits or anythingI'm disappointed this broke after just 4 years, but it's done a good job while I had it. At $190 to re-purchase, I'm willing to give 4 Stars.P.S. Yes, I know Samsonite has limited 10-year warranty, but - TBH - I can't be bothered for $190. I also can't wait - my next trip is too soon to deal with warranty work.
